Having been 'trapped' in space Doomsday's asteroid is found by a deep-space scavenger ship on a route to Apokolips, the home of the awesomely-powerful tyrant Darkseid. The ship's crew retrieves the asteroid hoping to find something of value instead and instead is slaughtered.

Doomsday arrives on Apokolips, beats Darkseid in single combat and proceeds to lay waste to Apokolips.

Darkseid's servant Desaad contacts Earth for help and a Superman obsessed with stopping Doomsday confronts his ultimate foe who had killed him in their last battle.
