Rising Stars is a 24-issue comic book limited series by J. Michael Straczynski about 113 people (called "Specials"). They are born with special abilities following a mysterious mass of energy from an unknown, but non-terrestrial source striking the small town of Pederson, Illinois. The comic explores how a society may react to the introduction of superpowers, and how those Specials may react towards society and each other.

The people of the world, initially worried by what the children might become when they reached adulthood, now fear what they will do with the powers they've gained and who might suffer should the "Rising Stars" start to think they could run the world better.

The story continues as the specials wage war on each other and the rest of the world as the struggles of the real world against extra-ordinary powered beings.
